Oakley officials believe the individual possibly climbed over fence to get water and fell in.

Marine patrol deputies recovered the body. Investigators now believe the victim probably climbed a fence to get water from the canal and fell in.
Police said while the water in the canal may appear calm, below the surface it is moving quickly because it is being pumped.

Police said public safety divers will not go in the canal unless the pumps are turned off.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen someone near the fence or climb over it to email police at opd@ci.oakley.ca.us. Anyone with other information about the death is asked to email police, too.
