CLARINET FUSION, the Bay Area’s premiere Clarinet Choir, brings their resonating sound to an upcoming concert titled ‘In the Spotlight’ at 7PM on Friday, April 24 at the Martinez Community Senior Center. Join us for an exciting mix of tunes that includes popular, fun!, classical, a little bit of jazz, and features the individual instruments and musicians.
Clarinet Fusion, a recipient of the Contra Costa County Arts Recognition Award, is based in Pleasant Hill and is in its 17th year entertaining audiences around the Bay Area and beyond. With its wonderful blend of 9 musicians playing 5 different kinds of clarinets – from the smallest high-pitched Eb clarinet at 19 inches to the largest Contrabass clarinet at 9 feet, Fusion brings its varied musical programing for the enjoyment of all. Come learn about clarinets, hear some great music and the emcee will share some fun facts about the songs along the way. The musicians will be available to talk with you and answer questions after the concert.
The concert is open to the public – all ages welcome!&nbsp;Doors open at 6:30pm.
Tickets are $5 per person and available at the door.

Alhambra High School Drama Club invites the community to be part of the audience at their annual musical, Once Upon a Mattress! Performances will be held at the AHS Performing Arts Building at 150 E Street in Martinez on&nbsp;Thursday, April 30th, and Friday, May 1st at 7 p.m., with both a 2 p.m. matinee and a 7 p.m. closing performance on Saturday, May 2. Once Upon a Mattress unfolds in a small medieval kingdom where all are forbidden to marry until the hopelessly sheltered Prince Dauntless is wed to a true princess. Every candidate in the region has been purposely disqualified by impossible royalty tests engineered by the domineering quueen and her wizard. Desperate to marry, two members of the court launch a last-ditch search for a royal bachelorette and discover Princess Winnifred, who hails from the swamplands. The tomboyish and spirited princess suddenly finds herself holding all of the kingdom’s hopes of winning the prince’s heart and freeing the citizens to marry. 
With music by Mary Rodgers and lyrics by Marshall Barer, Once Upon a Mattress is a zany and irresistible comedic romp through Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Princess and the Pea” tale. The book's (Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller &amp; Marshall Barer) clever wordplay and wit are punctuated by jazzy, upbeat musical numbers brimming with theatrical charm including standout songs “Shy,” “Song of Love,” and “Happily Ever After.” The musical premiered in 1959 starring Carol Burnett in her Broadway debut and has flourished through famed Broadway revivals and several popular television adaptations. Audiences will delight in the lively choreography, vibrant costumes, and fun medieval sets in Alhambra’s version as they find themselves rooting for the underdogs of this topsy-turvy fairy tale.
Once Upon a Mattress is directed and produced by Ms. Emma Malki, and Mrs. Sara Stafford is the technical director and musical director with assistance from Mr. Monte Bairos. The show is choreographed by Ms. Brittany Finley with costume design by Ms. Sara Bragg. In all, more than 100 Alhambra High School students are involved in the production including a large ensemble cast, student musicians, and technical crew, with design and construction by AHS’s Stagecraft classes.

5th annual free Bay Area SpringFest is Saturday, May 2, celebrating spring with plants, arts &amp; crafts, music and food in Downtown Concord at tree-lined Todos Santos Plaza in the largest city of upscale Contra Costa County. There will be music on the Todos Santos stage, a dozen eclectic food vendors, beer and wine garden, free activities for kids and myriad shopping opportunities.
SpringFest is open from 12 noon to 7pm with free admission and ample free neaSpringFest is open open Rain or Shine.rby parking in historic Downtown Concord. 
This free outdoor fair allows shoppers to see the unique goods and services from 100 vendors, home-based businesses and commercial exhibitors. Arts &amp; crafts, jewelry, apparel, plants, CBD products, home improvement, technology and much more will be available at SpringFest.
Attendees of all ages can bring a blanket or lawn chairs to sit in the park and enjoy the spring day. Pets on a leash are welcome as well.

Live music at SpringFest entertains attendees enjoying spring in downtown Concord:
12:30-2pm The Commanders Jazz Band celebrates America’s musical heritage performing the rich sounds of small group jazz. Part of the United States Air Force Band of the Golden West, The Commanders harness musical excellence, honoring our nation and those who have served. Their performance will conclude with a Musical Tribute to America’s 250th Birthday this year.
2:45-4:15pm Audio Mynde is a long-standing Bay Area band specializing in classic rock, blues and hits from the '60s through the 2Ks. Founded in 1990, the band has regularly played in the area for over 3 decades.
5-7pm Katie Knipp: The Concord native is a 4x Top 10 Billboard Blues Albums artist. Her music celebrates eclecticism and genre-fluid creativity. Her band features Pancho Tomaselli on bass (War, Tower of Power, Philm), Steve Utstein on the B3 (Cafe R&amp;B, Bo Diddley, Junior Wells, Lonnie Brooks), Chris Martinez on guitar (Sac Blues Hall of Fame, Guitar Mac, Arbess Williams) &amp; Neil Campisano on drums (4 top 10 Billboard albums).
Kid's activities include free balloon animals and hats.
The first 400 attendees will receive a SpringFest Goody Bag sponsored by Hamilton Tree Service and Ecomulch. Each registered attendee will receive a free raffle ticket for numerous SpringFest-themed prizes.
Donation of food to the Monument Crisis Center will earn the donor another raffle ticket for each can donated.
