Contra Costa County Jail Death Ruled Suicide

MARTINEZ, CA — The death of an inmate at the Martinez Detention Facility in June has been found by a coroner's inquest to be a suicide, the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department said Wednesday.

Alexander Legaspi was found hanging from a bar in the shower early June 23. Medical personnel tried to resuscitate the man but he was pronounced dead.

Further details about his death were not immediately available.

A coroner's inquest is typically held after an in-custody death, or fatal incidents involving deputies or officers.
The coroner's jury determines whether the death was accidental, suicide, natural causes or non-accidental causes.
