Contra Costa Pedestrian Who Was Killed By Car Identified

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA -- A man killed in a collision in Pittsburg has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as Berhane Araya, 65.

According to police, Araya was walking east on Willow Pass Road on the south sidewalk on Dec. 28 when a westbound vehicle struck him as it turned into a driveway.

Police officers responded at 6:45 a.m. and the pedestrian was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Police said the driver was cooperative and intoxication was not a factor in the collision.

Police described Araya as a resident of the neighborhood where he was killed, while the coroner's office identified him as a resident of San Jose.
