Convicted Killer From Contra Costa Possibly Murdered In Jail

Armando Wehr was serving time for the shooting death of a Bay Point man outside an Antioch club.

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA – A 33-year-old inmate at Salinas Valley State Prison, convicted for a killing in Antioch, was found dead in a suspected homicide Monday, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation officials said today.

Armando Wehr was an inmate at the men's Salinas Valley State Prison in unincorporated Monterey County near Soledad, serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole from Contra Costa County for second-degree murder and an additional 25 years for intentional discharge of a firearm.

Officers at the prison found Wehr unresponsive with multiple wounds in a maximum-security yard just after 9 p.m., according to correctional officials. He was pronounced dead at 9:35 p.m. despite life-saving efforts.

Correctional officials said no suspect has been identified at this time. They did not release further information about the nature of Wehr's injuries.

He was arrested on Sept. 14, 2007, for shooting and killing Bay Point resident Walter McDuffie outside Club Q, a bar in Antioch.
