The 40-year-old man had just arrived at the Martinez jail when he became unconscious and nonresponsive from a suspected overdose.

MARTINEZ, CA — Deputies helped save the life of an arrestee Tuesday morning at the county jail in Martinez, the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office said.
Around 7:10 a.m., intake deputies were notified that an arrestee was unconscious and unresponsive in the jail's sally-port area — an extended, secure entryway — the sheriff's office said.
The 40-year-old man was arrested by the San Pablo Police Department and was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility by a jailer who tried to revive the man before notifying deputies.
