BAY POINT, CA — A robbery Sunday at an East Bay market turned deadly when the store clerk shot the suspected robber, officials with the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office said. Muir Station deputies were dispatched at 11:04 p.m. to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon and a shooting at a market in the 200 block of Port Chicago Highway in Bay Point, said Jimmy Lee, director of public affairs for the sheriff's office.

Deputies found a clerk inside the store suffering from a head injury, Lee said. Deputies also found a man down on the ground at the intersection of Lynbrook Street and Desanie Way, not far from the store, Kam's Market.

The man suffered a gunshot wound and was later pronounced dead at the scene, Lee said.
