Contemporary jazz composer and guitarist Obiedo had an eclectic musical background during his youth, spent in the Bay Area of San Francisco.
In his illustrious career, Ray has played and/or toured with Sheila E, Pete Escovedo, Herbie Hancock, George Duke, Lou Rawls, Johnny “Hammond” Smith, Julian Priester, Mark Soskin, Pee Wee Ellis, Fred Wesley and Rose Ann Diamalanta.
Obiedo's solo compositions have also attracted acclaim, and saw interpretations from Sheila E., vocal group The Whispers, and percussionist Pete Escovedo. Parts of this work have appeared on film soundtracks, most notably Michael Caine's “A Shock To The System” and Richard Gere's “Internal Affairs”.
Ray has recorded a clutch of solo albums for Windham Hill Jazz Records and leads his own band, The Ray Obiedo Group.
