Fatal Crash Reported On Hwy 4 Near Martinez Exit

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA – A Martinez highway that closed after a fatal traffic collision Saturday night has reopened this morning, California Highway Patrol officers said.

The crash was reported at around 11:14 p.m. on eastbound state Highway 4 just west of the Alhambra Avenue off-ramp.

A black Dodge Charger was reportedly seen facing sideways between the first and second lanes, CHP officers said.

At 11:15 p.m., Contra Costa County firefighters were called in to investigate a possible gas leak. Officers issued a Sig-alert at 11:33 p.m. when they closed the highway to all eastbound traffic, which was diverted off at Alhambra Avenue.

After clearing the crash, the Sig-alert was canceled and all lanes reopened at 12:48 a.m., CHP officers said.

No further information was immediately available.
