Flood-Insurance Premiums Slashed In Portions Of Contra Costa Co.

Residents and businesses in some unincorporated areas will see rates drop due to new FEMA rating.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA – Many residents and businesses in unincorporated areas of Contra Costa County will soon be paying less for flood insurance because of a new rating from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Contra Costa County Public Works Department announced Friday.

The county has earned a Class 5 community rating from FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program, resulting in current and new policyholders saving 25 percent on annual premiums on policies in high-risk areas and
saving 10 percent in lower-risk areas, according to the public works department.

The savings translates into annual savings of about $437 for individual residents and a total of more than $450,000 for all eligible residents and businesses together
