Dear News Team,I am reaching out to share a deeply moving, urgent story about a vital member of our Contra Costa County community who needs our collective help after a devastating incident on Mother's Day.LeAnn is a local leader who serves on the Council on Homelessness for the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors. After experiencing homelessness firsthand—living in a tent in Concord for four years—she recently transitioned into a shelter program at the Premiere Motel and has dedicated her life to helping others, working for the local food rescue organization White Pony Express.On Mother’s Day, while working hard to make ends meet by delivering for DoorDash, LeAnn's life was upended. A drunk driver struck a vehicle in front of her, and in an attempt to flee the scene, put his car in reverse and rammed into LeAnn’s car twice, completely totaling it. To make matters worse, the driver was uninsured, and LeAnn's insurance will not cover the losses because she was driving for a delivery service at the time.LeAnn did everything right—she kept up on her license, registration, and liability insurance while actively working her way out of homelessness. Now, through no fault of her own, she is facing mounting medical bills and has lost the vital transportation she relies on to attend county council meetings and commute to her job rescuing food for others.Her friends and community members have rallied together and launched a GoFundMe campaign, raising an initial $5,000.
