Grass Fire Burns Five Acres In Martinez

The fire was reported on Tuesday, and very near one from last week on Howe Road.

A grass fire burned approximately five acres of vegetation in Martinez on Tuesday but did not reach any structures, a fire official said today.

The fire was roughly a half-mile away from a brush fire last week that damaged two properties and caused roughly $80,000 in damage, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Fire Inspector Steve Aubert said. (Previous story: Martinez Fire Contained Along Howe Road.)

On Tuesday, firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire at 3:30 p.m. on Howe Road near Old Orchard Road, according to Aubert.

“It ended up being a vegetation fire with structures threatened,” Aubert said.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire by 4:30 p.m., he said. No homes or other property were damaged but roughly five acres of vegetation burned, he said.
