Inmate Who Died In Martinez Jail ID'd
The 26-year-old from Contra Costa County was arrested earlier that day for alleged battery and resisting arrest, officials said.

MARTINEZ, CA – The inmate who died Saturday while in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility was identified as Karthik Kandaswamy, 26, from San Ramon, authorities said.
Kandaswamy, who was arrested earlier that day by the San Ramon Police Department for suspicion of battery and resisting arrest, was found unresponsive in a holding room at the Martinez facility at about 11:27 p.m., the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office said.
Jail medical personnel were called, along with medics and firefighters, however Kandaswamy was pronounced dead at the scene following CPR and attempts to save his life, the agency said.

An investigation into his death is underway by the offices of the Contra Costa County District Attorney and the sheriff, deputies said.
