Man Threatens Martinez High School Student: Cops

The incident started when the man, identified by police as Gilbert Rodriguez of Martinez, allegedly threatened a student.

MARTINEZ, CA -- A 40-year-old man was arrested Friday in connection with an altercation with a high school student near downtown Martinez, police said. The incident started when the man, identified by police as Gilbert Rodriguez of Martinez, allegedly threatened a student of Vicente High School, at Susana and Court Streets, across the street from the school.

Police said Rodriguez had a razor in his hand at the time, and that he left the area after a verbal exchange with the student.

A Vicente staff member called police a few minutes later at 1:54 p.m. Friday, and the suspect was identified. Officers went to his home on LaSalle Street about six blocks away; at first, Rodriguez would not come out to speak with officers. Police then blocked off one block of LaSalle Street.

But Rodriguez emerged after only a few minutes, at 2:17 p.m., and surrendered without incident, police said.

Rodriguez was booked into the County Jail in Martinez charged on suspicion of brandishing a weapon and of cruelty to a child.
