Martinez Flaring Incident Draws County HazMat Response

Martinez Refining Company must now complete a 72-hour report on the flaring incident, county officials said.

MARTINEZ, CA — Contra Costa Health's HazMat Team responded to reports of flaring Thursday night at the refinery in Martinez.

Authorities responded around 9:30 p.m.; shortly before 10 p.m., county officials confirmed on Twitter the flaring had stopped.

"We are working with the Air District and real-time air monitoring data shows there is no imminent health risk to the community at this time," CCH said on Twitter at 9:57 p.m. Thursday.

Martinez Refining Company must now complete a 72-hour report on the flaring incident and it is due to Contra Costa Health Services by the end of the day Monday. The report will be posted on the county's HazMat webpage.
