Martinez Refinery Flaring Prompts Response From Con Fire, HazMat

County officials confirmed the large flaring event but said no action from the public was requested.

MARTINEZ, CA — The Martinez Refinery experienced a large flaring event Friday evening that was producing flames visible from off the site, county officials said.

First responders and Hazmat were on the scene and no action from the public was requested as of 5:45 p.m., according to the Contra Costa Office of the Sheriff's Community Warning System.

Con Fire confirmed it responded to reports of a fire and/or explosion in the 3400 block of Pacheco in Martinez.

Officials with the Martinez Refining Company said the flaring was the result of an ongoing special operation confined to refinery property, according to Con Fire.
