Martinez Voters Select New Mayor

"We need to re-open City Hall to full-time hours and get back to full strength, especially our police."

MARTINEZ, CA — Martinez Vice Mayor Lara DeLaney is poised to replace longtime Mayor Rob Schroder on the city council, edging out council colleague Brianne Zorn on Tuesday.

DeLaney - also a senior deputy administrator for Contra Costa County - took 24.6 percent of the vote, to Zorn's 22.4 percent, according to unofficial election results from the Contra Costa County Registrar of Voters.

Zorn remains on the council, as her district 3 term doesn't expire until 2024.

DeLaney also said during the campaign she wants to "move forward with the marina, once and for all," meaning overhauling the fishing pier with new amenities for boaters and more restaurants and entertainment.

She also says it's time to bring the proposed Joe DiMaggio museum to life and develop and maintain parks and open space and rebuild the city's workforce and restore confidence in City Hall. "We need to re-open City Hall to full-time hours and get back to full strength, especially our police," DeLaney said, on her campaign site.

Carpenter and community organizer Jay Howard will replace DeLaney as the council's district 1 representative. He beat Nakenya Allen on Tuesday, with 58.8 percent of the vote.

District 4 incumbent Debbie McKillop beat Ben Therriault on Tuesday, with 51.3 percent of the vote.
