Postal Service Announces New Post Office In Martinez

An Alhambra Avenue food mart becomes a "Village Post Office" today.

A food market in Martinez is set to become a Village Post Office on Tuesday, according to U.S. Postal Service officials.

Amilcar and Diana Warton, owners of the US Gas Station and Food Mart at 3767 Alhambra Ave. in Martinez, will join postal officials for a grand opening ceremony at 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to the postal service.

The couple, originally from Peru, started the business and felt the Village Post Office concept would be perfect for their store, according to the postal service.

VPOs are located in non-U.S. Postal Service establishments such as grocery stores and gas stations and allow customers to purchase Forever stamps, drop off prepaid mail and packages and pick up Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes and envelopes.

Additionally, VPOs offer expanded business hours including Sundays and holidays, postal officials said.
