Robbers Shoot Man in Chest in Concord

Police used a search dog to scour the area following the shooting.

A man is in stable condition after he was shot while attempting to retrieve a cellphone and wallet that had just been stolen from him early this morning in Concord, a police spokesman said.

Officers responded shortly after 5 a.m. to a report of a shooting near the intersection of Pine Street and Clayton Road, Concord police Cpl. Christopher Blakely said.

Blakely said officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest and transported him to a hospital. The man had been waiting for a ride to work near the intersection of Pine Street and Willow Pass Road when two suspects approached him, Blakely said.

The suspects allegedly robbed him of his cellphone and wallet and then ran away toward Market Street, Blakely said. Moments after the robbery, the man’s ride arrived and they spotted the suspects at the intersection of Clayton Road and Pine Street, according to Blakely.

The victim demanded his property back and a struggle ensued, during which one of the suspects shot the man, Blakely said.

The suspects ran away and although police searched the area with a police dog, the suspects evaded capture, Blakely said.

The suspect who allegedly shot the victim was described as a man standing roughly 5 feet 6 inches tall and wearing a black jacket and short pants. The second suspect was described as a man standing roughly 5 feet 2 inches tall who was wearing a gray jacket and pants of an unknown color.
