Repairs On Contra Costa Boulevard Sinkhole To Not Affect July 4th Parade

PLEASANT HILL, CA -- Repairs on a ruptured water line in Pleasant Hill began Saturday after the break caused a large sinkhole.

On Friday at 9:04 p.m., the Pleasant Hill Police Department responded to reports of flooding in the area of Contra Costa Boulevard between Woodsworth and Gregory lanes.

A water line failed beneath the roadway surface of the southbound lanes and caused water to escape through the cracks in the street, flooding the roadway and nearby business properties, police said.

The continuous water flow also caused a large sinkhole to develop.

Repairs on the water line were estimated to be completed late in the day Saturday, however because of the damage to the road surface, major repairs to Contra Costa Boulevard would likely not be complete until later
today, according to Pleasant Hill city officials.

City officials said they did not anticipate the repairs to impact the Fourth of July Parade, scheduled for Monday morning.
