Reports Of Plane Crash Off I-580 'Unfounded'

A ground and air search was launched after a driver on I-580 thought that they saw a plane go down.

CASTRO VALLEY, CA — The Alameda County Sheriff's Office says that reports of a possible plane crash in the vicinity of Rowell Ranch appear unfounded.

In a Tweet, the Sheriff's Office reports, "Now learning this may have been an experimental aircraft that landed in the hills and took off again. The air and ground search revealed no crash site. We have made contact with the experimental pilot. Crash is unfounded at this point."

Shortly after 6 p.m., ACSO launched both a ground and air search off Interstate Highway 580 after a driver reported seeing a plane "in distress go down in the hills near 580 and Rowell Ranch in Castro Valley."
