Saturday In Crockett: Vets Hosting 'Bridge Walk' For Armed Forces Day

Bring the family and honor the troops! Plus, two concerts this weekend in Walnut Creek.

Saturday is Armed Forces Day… May 16th the 3rd Saturday of May every year! Most forget or did not know it was a holiday.

To honor and pay tribute to all those who proudly serve our nation in uniform and have served... the Vietnam Veterans of the Diablo Valley are joining with Phillips 66 Refinery for a “bridge walk” Saturday morning starting at the Community Center in Crockett.

The event is called the “WALK of HONOR” for our Veterans.

This is the Vietnam Vets 7th year to participate in this salute to the troops on Armed Forces Day. Jerry Yahiro, Past President calls it a fun, family walk across the bridge & back beginning at 10AM in the morning.

On-site registration is available beginning at 8AM until 9:30AM. Walk event information can be found on their website - www.sfrwalkofhonor.com - although, online registration is closed.

The site for registration is the Crockett Community Center at 850 Pomona Street in Crockett.

Transportation is provided to and from the Community Center to the bridge-head for the 10AM start.

A “fly-over” during the Walk features a Vietnam UH-1 Helicopter provided by the Vietnam Helicopter Museum. One of the highlights of the Walk of Honor is the celebration after the short Walk.

Registered participants will enjoy a catered BBQ luncheon at the Community Center and short Armed Forces Day tribute program featuring the senior enlisted female from the U. s. Coast Guard in Alameda.

Arrive early to see & visit the Walk of Honor Information Fair highlighting many of the services, programs, opportunities, benefits and other areas of interest to military, veterans & their family. Many exhibitors will be of interest to the community, including the U.S. Park Services “Rosie the Riveter” – Blue Star Moms – Diablo Valley Flag Brigade’s “Operation Welcome Home” & many more!

The Walk of Honor Information Fair also features military displays including a VietNam UH-1 Huey Helicopter – for boarding & photos. Remember your camera! Also other military vehicles on featured. John Reese, VNVDV Public Affairs Officer believes this is a great way to honor those who serve by registering & participating in a community event such as the Walk of Honor for our Veterans.

Registration is only $25. and includes transportation to and from the Community Center to the bridge-head for the walk - your 2015 Walk Shirt - a Walk of Honor Wrist Band – the Info Fair & of course the great BBQ lunch (all you can eat) + a fun raffle, free American Flag for your Walk across the bridge! Join us!

ALSO THIS WEEKEND – to Honor & Remember those who Serve and have Served...

On Armed Forces Day - Saturday, May 16th in the evening in Walnut Creek - the Blackhawk Chorus performs at the Lesher Theater. This amazing 140 member chorus will perform their new spring/summer concert and is honoring Mike Conklin, founder of the Sentinels of Freedom during their concert. Mike & his wife Peggy are the parents of three Army Rangers.

The following day… on Sunday, May 17th in the evening, again in Walnut Creek - a special Armed Forces Tribute to the Sentinels of Freedom with a patriotic concert performs at the Lesher Theater honoring veterans. Remember the freedom we all enjoy - take time this weekend to pay tribute to those who serve.
