Shooting Threat At Martinez Junior High: Supt. Cancels School

Classes and all other functions are canceled Friday at MJHS due to a potential shooting threat, MUSD Superintendent CJ Cammack said.

MARTINEZ, CA — A potential shooting threat against Martinez Junior High School prompted Martinez Unified School District Superintendent CJ Cammack to cancel classes today at the Court Street campus. Cammack said school and district administrators were notified after school Thursday of a threatening message written on a bathroom wall specifying Friday, March 16 as the date of the potential shooting.

"Working closely with the Martinez Police Department we reviewed potential leads and conducted an initial investigation based on available information," Cammack said late Thursday in a notice to students, parents, school staff and the community.

"At this time, there is no indication that this a credible threat," Cammack continued. "However, in light of recent events and the current climate around school shootings, out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety of our students and staff I am canceling school for Martinez Junior High School tomorrow, including all related after-school and evening functions."

"There are no threats for any other MUSD school," Cammack said.
