Wells Fargo Loses Additional Bay Area Business Following Fake Account Scandal
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District board voted this week to restrict dealings with the institution for two years.
BAY AREA, CA – The Bay Area Air Quality Management Board Wednesday became the latest government body to restrict their business relationship with Wells Fargo Bank over the financial institution's ongoing scandal involving fake accounts.
In response to the bank's recent admission that they created over two million fake bank and credit card accounts, the air district's board voted Wednesday to direct staff to refrain from initiating business with
Wells Fargo for two years.
The scandal has also led to a $185 million fine from the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The bank also fired more than 5,000 employees, district officials said.
