The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office has identified an 18-year-old woman whose identity remained unknown for months.

The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office has identified an 18-year-old woman whose identity remained unknown for months after her death in February, authorities announced on June 12.

The Coroner's Division announced that the woman was identified as Layla White after a social worker contacted investigators and said she recognized information released publicly by the sheriff's office.

Authorities had sought the public's help on May 4 after multiple efforts to identify the woman were unsuccessful.

The coroner later determined the death was a suicide, the sheriff's office said.

Officials said White was not carrying identification, and her last known address could not be determined. Next of kin has been notified.

The sheriff's office credited community outreach for helping solve the case, noting that social media posts generated nearly 250,000 views and hundreds of shares before a tip led investigators to White's identity.
