• Police: Menlo Park man dies after East Palo Alto assault (almanacnews.com) — A Menlo Park resident has died from injuries suffered in an assault Thursday afternoon on University Avenue in East Palo Alto, after being taken to Stanford Hospital. East Palo Alto police arrested a suspect at the scene, who is now in San Mateo County Jail as the homicide investigation continues. Authorities say this is the city's first murder case since April 2024.
   

• State commits to crafting a fix to broken VLF process; Mueller and Speier say the work isn't done (inmenlo.com) — San Mateo County leaders, including former Menlo Park mayor Ray Mueller, are pushing the state to quickly fix a broken Vehicle License Fee formula that's costing local cities hundreds of millions of dollars. A new budget bill signals intent to work on a solution starting in 2027-28, but officials warn that ongoing shortfalls threaten public safety, health, and other essential services now.
