ATHERTON, CA — The Menlo Park City School District will hold public hearings Thursday, Nov. 12, on teacher contract negotiations and proposed French instructional materials for middle school students.
The district and Menlo Park Education Association (MPEA) will present their initial bargaining proposals, while a separate hearing will address the proposed adoption of a French curriculum for students in grades 6-8.
Both sides intend to negotiate their entire collective bargaining agreement. The hearing notice does not specify proposed changes to salaries, benefits or working conditions.
A separate public hearing will address the proposed adoption of Reporters francophones, a French language program from Klett World Languages for students in grades 6-8.
The curriculum, Reporters francophones from Klett World Languages, focuses on foundational French literacy skills and incorporates multicultural instruction. District officials said the program aligns with standards established by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.
Both hearings are scheduled during the board's regular meeting at 181 Encinal Ave. in Atherton. The open session begins at 6 p.m., following a 5 p.m. closed session.
Residents can attend in person or participate virtually through Zoom.
The meeting agenda will be posted at least 72 hours in advance on the district's board agenda website.
For questions, residents can contact the superintendent's office at 650-321-7140, ext. 5603, or district@mpcsd.org.
