City Discusses Take Over of Flood Park September 21

City of Menlo Park Considers Taking Owenership of Flood Park

Please sign up to comment before the meeting with the clerk to voice your support for Flood Park (you will have 2-3 minutes to make your comments).

The City of Menlo Park is considering asking San Mateo County for transfer of ownership of Flood Park.

According to a recent Menlo Park Parks and Recreation Department memo,  "Recent meetings with the County have resulted in the County agreeing to include funding in their FY 11-12 budget for re-opening the park following completion of the SFPUC work there sometime in the late fall. This would allow the City more time to study the maintenance needs at the park and develop an operations plan that will provide more information about the implications to the City’s budget of accepting ownership of the park. A study session on this item is scheduled for December 13 following a Parks and Rec Commission review and recommendation at a October 19 meeting.

If the decision to move forward with a transfer is made based on these studies, the goal would be to finalize all agreements with the County by February of 2012 so that the City could take ownership on July 1, 2012 with a complete funding, maintenance and operations strategy in place for the 2012-13 fiscal year. A community engagement process to develop a long term master plan for the park would likely begin no sooner than fall of 2012."
