County May Reopen Flood Park In September

Lots of opportunities to get involved in the process.

Big News: County may keep park open until June 2012!  Congratulations everyone!  Your efforts to re-open the park are paying off.  The new county budget recommendation includes funds to temporarily reopen Flood Park after the pipeline work is completed until June 2012.

However, this is not definite. The County Board of Supervisors needs to vote on this recommendation.  Let's ask them to vote yes! Please email a note of support for the park to the county board of supervisors at:  bos_webmaster@co.sanmateo.ca.us.

This is not a long-term fix. The county is still sticking to its decision that it cannot manage Flood Park in the long-term.  They are currently in negotiations with the city of Menlo Park over a transfer of ownership.  Please email the Menlo Park City Council with a note of support for Flood Park at: city.council@menlopark.org.

Let's keep up the momentum...

1. Community Meeting at Cafe Zoe this Monday

Join us at Cafe Zoe in the Willows on Monday, June 13 at 6:30pm to meet with City Council members about the future of the park. Goal of the meeting will be to show the city and county that we are excited to work cooperatively with them on a plan to reopen the park when the water pipeline project is completed in September. We will also discuss how the SaveFloodPark community can help support the park going forwards, through donations, volunteer projects, community events, and improvements.  Children are most welcome!

2. City Council meetings

This Tuesday 6/14 Flood Park is on the consent agenda for the City Manager to enter in to negotiations with the County of San Mateo.  We don't need a massive showing at this meeting but it would be great to have a few people speak in favor.

The key vote on whether or not the City will take over the park will likely be on the agenda July 19 or 26.  When this happens we will need as many people to come as possible!  We will be looking for volunteers to pass out flyers in their neighborhoods to maximize turnout. Please email volunteer@savefloodpark.org if you may be available to help.

Email the Council: city.council@menlopark.org to let all the city council members know how important the park is to you.

3. County Budget Hearings

The new budget recommendation, includes funding for the park through June 2012, will be presented to the Board of Supervisors during the June budget hearings.  Public works is scheduled to present on Wednesday, 6/22 at 1:30pm.  It will be important to have park supporters speak up in favor of this budget revision!
