Kendra Wiley Wins Gold in Triple Jump at PAL High School Finals
Kendra Wiley took 6 weeks to learn an event. In the first week it was clear that the strange looking field event called triple jump as going to be owned by Kendra.
Kendra Wiley, a senior at Menlo-Atherton High School, is an athlete. A general and unspecific way of describing her but when someone can learn a field event in 6 weeks and WIN gold in a competition against other girls who have been active in the event for 4 years - you can call her an athlete. Kendra took first in the triple jump event at the league finals on Friday (PAL), jumping 33' 3 1/2".
Have you seen triple jump? It takes coordination and a lot of core strength. Coach Aisha Swazyer and friend James Sebes knew that triple jump was something Kendra could do. M-A was short on triple jumpers. Kendra had joined the M-A track team late because, well, she won another gold this year - in girl's wrestling - CSS Gold. James, a triple jumper and discus thrower, showed Kendra the steps. Coach Aisha taught her the fine points and convinced her that this was a sport that she, Kendra, could excel at; Aisha jumped at college.
With explosive leg strength, a fast 20M sprint, and a humble (and little uncertain) attitude, she won first in league finals for PAL. Ms. Wiley now moves on to CCS this week where she will have to PR (have a personal best) to make the finals. Good luck, Kendra.

[Oh - did I mention that she went on to be 4th in State in wrestling. Yup, an athlete.]
