Local Runner Races with Bostonians in Big Sur International Marathon
Two weeks ago today, unconscionable terror attempted to destroy the strength and powerful resolve of Bostonians. We all were touched by this heinous and cowardice act.
We read the paper, watched television reports and listened to internet radio while at work for breaking news coverage.
Throughout it all - the spirit, tenacity and will to overcome has been prevalent for the city, the marathoners and the country as a whole. JobTrain even observed a moment of silence for the victims at our last staff meeting.

“Stay strong Boston,” and “Keep running Boston” have become the new mantra of sorts.
However, I witnessed the potency and realness of such expressions with my own two eyes yesterday. Never would I have imagined, that I'd experience the most humbling honor of running alongside 400 Bostonian Marathon participants – that didn’t finish the race (2) weeks ago. These individuals were invited to run in yesterday’s Big Sur International Marathon.

After the race, I was contemplating what it would've been like meeting a Bostonian and imagining what I'd actually say to them. Serendipitously, a fellow runner sat beside me on the bus as we were being transported back to our vehicles/hotels. I recognized two handsome runners walking thru the narrow aisle of the bus, wearing the distinctive “finisher jackets” which were presented to each Boston Marathoner. I said to the woman seated beside me, “Wow, those are more runners from Boston. The woman looked at me and calmly said, “I am one of the Boston runners too.” I was speechless.
Surprisingly, we bonded during the bus ride. I conveyed that meeting her and having the opportunity to personally convey how proud WE all are of her and all of the runners, for their strength and perseverance to continue running - "made" the race for me. With tears welling up in Janet’s eyes, she said, "Meeting you Kail – and listening to how much you care, made the race for me."
Boston has, is and WILL continue to stay strong as their resilience is both undeniable and unbreakable. Unequivocally, yesterday’s experience will be a day that I will ALWAYS appreciate and NEVER forget.
