BREAKING: Kayaker Missing in Bay Near Dumbarton Bridge
Search crews were combing the Bay Tuesday night [BREAKING]

MENLO PARK, CA — Water rescue crews were combing the Bay for much of Tuesday evening, after a kayaker was reported missing by his friend who was rescued near the Dumbarton Bridge, fire officials report.
According to the Menlo Park Fire Protection District, at 4:38 p.m. a man was found in a raft near the Dumbarton Railroad Trestle by Menlo Fire Airboat 77. He told rescue crews that his friend was still in the water with no life vest and had disappeared.
"The reporting and rescued boater stated that he was in the lead while out on the bay," Menlo Park Fire District officials said in an incident report. "He went to look back at his friend who was in a Kayak and saw it was upside down, his floatation vest still inside and he could not locate him."

The victim, described as a 32-year-old Hispanic man about 5 foot 9 inches tall, was being sought by 13 water rescue boats, including:
- Menlo Fire Airboat 77
- Menlo Fire Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat 1-77
- Redwood City Fire Boat 9
- Fremont Fire Boat
- Alameda County Fire Boat
- Coast Guard Rescue Boat
- Redwood City PD Boat
- San Mateo County Sheriffs Boat
- South San Francisco Fire Boat
- San Jose Fire Boat
- Santa Clara Fire Boat
- Hayward Fire Boat
- San Mateo County Sheriffs Boat
A Coast Guard helicopter was being utilized to search from above. Crews from Menlo Park and Fremont were also using drones to search the shoreline on both sides of the Bay until nightfall.

The man had still not been found as of 9 p.m. As of the same time, officials were deciding if they would suspend search operations until the morning.
“Some Boat Crews are currently being rotated as watercraft is starting to come in for fuel, we are already planning to assist the USCG throughout the evening if needed or into tomorrow with our watercraft and crews," Menlo Park Fire District Fire Chief Schapelhouman added.
