Dr. Justin Murphy-Mancini from Pacific Lutheran University will offer a pipe-organ recital on "English and American Masterworks" on the 1924 E. M. Skinner organ in the sublime acoustics of Trinity St. Peter's. The program features hidden gems written in the last 150 years. Prominent American composers of yesteryear, like Henry Dunham, are contrasted with major figures of the 20th century, including Emma Lou Diemer, Undine Smith Moore, and Miriam Gideon. These are paired with works by composers across the pond, including Kenneth Leighton and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. The crown jewel is Herbert Howells's Master Tallis' Testament. This concert has a little of everything, from Bachian inspired fireworks, to dense chromaticism, to unadulterated joy. It is a diverse, yet coherent musical experience.
