Caltrain Maintenance Next Week
Taking Caltrain to the World Series? Maintenance will be underway by the time you get home.

Caltrain is planning several maintenance projects next week in the overnight hours. If you return home late or catch the first train of the morning, you may encounter the crews.
While Caltrain promises that workers will be as quiet as possible, neighbors may also hear a racket from the equipment.

San Francisco
Saturday, Oct. 25, and Sunday, Oct. 26, crews will resurface rail in the San Francisco rail yard at Fourth Street. Resurfacing corrects the alignment of uneven rails to make them smooth, minimizing the jerks and bumps experienced by passengers and reducing the mechanical strain on the rails. Neighbors may experience construction noise during this time. Crews will work as quietly as possible.
Sunday, Oct. 26, crews will weld and grind rail near the Bayshore station. The welding crew uses air compressors, gas-powered generators, small power tools, electric-arc welders and propane heaters. Neighbors also may hear a grinder, which is used to prepare the rail surface before it is welded and to smooth the completed welds. Crews will work as quietly as possible.
San Francisco to San Jose
Saturday, Oct. 25, to Friday, Oct. 31, crews will pressure wash and perform janitorial work at Caltrain stations between the San Francisco and Tamien stations.
Atherton to Palo Alto
Sunday, Oct. 26, to Thursday, Oct. 30, crews will replace wooden railroad ties between the Atherton and Palo Alto stations, including the Encinal Avenue track area in Menlo Park. Caltrain uses several different on-track, self-propelled machines to replace cross ties, and neighbors may experience construction noise during this time. Crews will work as quietly as possible.
Atherton to Mountain View
Monday, Oct. 27, to Thursday, Oct. 30, crews will resurface rail between the Atherton and San Antonio stations. Neighbors may experience construction noise during this time. Crews will work as quietly as possible.
Mountain View to Sunnyvale
Monday, Oct. 27, to Friday, Oct. 31, crews will replace railroad ties between the San Antonio and Sunnyvale stations as part of the VTA LTR Efficiency Project. Neighbors may experience construction noise during this time. Crews will work as quietly as possible.
