CHP To Target Drivers Speeding Along Winding Roads In This SMC City: Report

LA HONDA, CA — California Highway Patrol is expected to crack down on drivers speeding along the winding roads of a city in unincorporated San Mateo County, according to a CBS News report.

San Mateo County Supervisor Ray Mueller will pay CHP $125,000 yearly, funded by a district discretionary fund, to help combat speeding along La Honda roads after neighbors complained drivers have been treating the area like a racetrack, according to the report.

"There are thousands of hidden driveways behind blind curves," Karyn Ellis, a La Honda resident of 25 years, told CBS News Bay Area. "And people who come up here and don't know the roads, obviously don't know where those are."

Officials believe social media videos of other people speeding in the area have influenced others to do the same, according to the report.

A recent cars and coffee event in the area ended when the driver of a Tesla sped down SR 84, crossed into the double yellow line and crashed into a 70-year-old Honda driver, according to the report.
