Elderly Pedestrian Dies From Injuries Sustained 2 Weeks Ago
The man's wife, also struck by the vehicle, still is hospitalized from the crash on Mayfield Avenue in Palo Alto.

PALO ALTO, CA ā An elderly man who suffered major injuries when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing a Palo Alto street with his wife two weeks ago has died, police said.
The man, who is in his 80s, died at a hospital Tuesday. His identity has not been released.
His wife, who is also in her 80s, remains hospitalized and is in stable condition with major injuries, according to police.

The crash occurred on May 9 at about 7:50 a.m. in the 700 block of Mayfield Avenue, according to police.
After receiving a report of a crash, officers responded and found that a vehicle struck the couple. The pair was taken to a hospital, both with major injuries.

The driver who struck the couple, a Palo Alto woman in her 40s, was not injured. She remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
Detectives determined that the couple was crossing Mayfield Avenue in the middle of the block. At the same time, the woman, driving a 2015 Nissan Leaf, was heading west on Mayfield Avenue and struck them.
Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor. An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
The driver has not been arrested. However, the case will be sent to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office for review, according to police.
