History Hike at Wunderlich Park

Friends of Huddart & Wunderlich Parks invites the public to a docent-led hike while learning about the fascinating history of Wunderlich

History Hike at Wunderlich Park. Sat. June 4, 9:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m.
You are invited to join in this hike which will feature the history of Wunderlich Park. Between 1841, when John Copinger received a land grant of 12,545 acres, and 1974 when Martin Wunderlich gifted 942 acres to San Mateo County to be used as a park, this property with beautiful stands of redwoods, madrones and oaks attracted loggers and farmers... the poor and needy, the rich and famous. The first sheriff of San Francisco lived here and the first lumber mill on the peninsula was near by. We will hike through the history of the Folger family and answer questions such as, why there are so many eucalyptus trees, what happened at Salamander Flat, and what is that old building near the parking lot.
This hike will take about two hours and will cover 2.5 miles with a moderate climb of a few hundred feet. Meet at 9 a.m. at Folger Stable in Wunderlich, 4040 Woodside Rd.
