How Do Californians Really Feel About Green Bean Casserole at Thanksgiving?

About 30,000 green bean casseroles will appear on Thanksgiving dinner tables this week. Do you love it? Like it? Loathe it?

These days, there’s an index measuring everything, including a holiday favorite – depending on where you live.

If you’re like 69 percent of Californians, you probably planned to shop this week for the ingredients for green-bean casserole.

The Del Monte Green Bean Index, compiled after the, ahem, bean counters at Del Monte survey 1,500 Americans on their fondness for the classic combination of green beans and cream of mushroom soup topped with french-fried onions.

California ranked No. 9 on the index of states where residents “really like or love” the classic side dish. Here’s the low-down

Del Monte says the casserole will be on about 30,000 American dinner tables this Thanksgiving. Survey respondents were asked to share their top five secret ingredients – a single, creative item that can be added to make it unique and different. The results:

No. 11: Bacon (37 percent)

No. 2: Cheese (19 percent)

No. 3: Mushrooms (15 percent)

No. 4: Bread crumbs, croutons, or crushed crackers (12 percent)
