'Ladies Of The Night' Plead Not Guilty To SMC Attack On Man: DA

Prosecutors say the man and two women went to his room "to have fun," at which point he was robbed and eventually assaulted.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Two women entered not guilty pleas this week in a Redwood City courtroom for allegedly robbing a businessman who thought he was going to have sex with the pair at an airport hotel, San Mateo County prosecutors said.

Alexandria Czap, 27, and Kristen Steffan, 28, both of Sacramento, started a conversation at 11 p.m. on Oct. 23 with a 60-year-old businessman in the hotel bar of the Hyatt in Burlingame, according to prosecutors. The three went to a late-night dinner, after which Czap allegedly suggested the three go to the businessman's room "to have fun."

"Once in [the] room, [the] defendants told [the] victim they were 'ladies of the night' and demanded $500 for services," a report from the San Mateo County D.A.'s office says.

The man told the women he had only $120 with him, at which point the women allegedly "became angry and pushed" the man, prosecutors said.

Czap and Steffan then allegedly took the cash — along with the man's wallet, keys, cell phone and laptop. The pair allegedly told the man that he better not follow them or they would have someone "mess him up."

Still, as the followed Czap and Steffan into the parking lot and asked for his belongings back he asked a hotel employee to call police.

"[The women] him him in [the] head and then ran off," the D.A.'s report says.

Police arrived and found the pair walking about a block from the hotel. Steffan allegedly had $125 cash on her and the victim's property was allegedly found in the women's bags.

Both Czap and Steffan are out of custody, each on $50,000 bail. Czap and Steffan are due in court again Jan. 16 for a pre-trial conference.

Attorneys for the women did not immediately return a request for comment.
