Menlo Gets Huge Lift From Edelman
Drew Edelman grabbed a rebound and muscled the ball up as time expired, giving the Menlo girls' basketball team a 53-52 victory over Mercy-San Francisco in the West Bay Athletic League championship at Castilleja on Saturday
Mercy-San Francisco beat Menlo (17-9) the last two times they played - first 74-70 in OT then 70-57. The Skippers won the WBAL-Foothill Division title with a 9-1 mark. The teams are gearing up for the CCS playoffs with seeding slated for Sunday.
Menlo got a huge lift from junior center Edelman, who amassed 25 points and 26 rebounds. Junior guard Lauren Lete and sophomore forward Maddy Price contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Mercy led 43-36 entering the final quarter of a physical game, then Menlo began a 10-0 run. Price made a pull-up jumper and Mercy led by six. Edelman added two on a putback, Lete hit a free throw and the Knights trailed 49-45. A minute later, Price added two more on a jumper and Donya Dehnad took a pass from fellow sophomore Kaelen Dunn and tied the game at 49-49.

Mercy guard Mariah Masoli dropped a three-pointer with 40 seconds left for a 52-49 lead. Lete converted both free throws, and Menlo regained possession. Four shots later, Edelman pulled down a rebound of her own shot and converted with no time left on the clock.
