Menlo Golf Leads WBAL League

Menlo School Junior Andrew Buchanan earned co-medalist honor with Maverick McNealy of Harker.

Junior Andrew Buchanan led the Menlo Golf team to a 200-209 victory over Harker at Palo Alto Hills Country Club Wednesday by shooting a one over par 36 round to earn co-medalist honors shared with Maverick McNealy of Harker.

Menlo now stands alone in first place in the WBAL league. Buchanan pulled out driver on the first hole after the other contestants had played safely into the fairway. He drove a ball over the trees in the dog leg right hole and launched a drive that ended 10 yards short of the green on the 307 yard hole. His chip just missed the hole and tapped in his first of 3 birdies on the day.

Senior Jackson Dean and Freshman Ethan Wong both shot 39 on the tough course. Dean started strong with 4 straight pars and battled the tough closing holes on the front nine.

Wong played a steady round with 5 pars. Junior Max Garnick recorded his second straight scoring round by shooting 2 pars and a birdie on the tough par 5 seventh hole,  Senior Will Petit closed out the scoring with a 44 that included a birdie on the 356 yard uphill ninth hole.
