Menlo Park Police Honored With 'Community Policing Award'

"Menlo Park has proven to be a city committed to building partnerships and relationships."

MENLO PARK, CA – Menlo Park police are just one of four departments nationwide to be honored with a special "community policing award" this week, officials announced Tuesday.

Menlo Park PD was awarded the "IACP/Cisco Community Policing Award," along with three other police departments.

The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) announced today that ten agencies have been selected to receive the 2016 IACP and Cisco Systems Community Policing Award. The award, in its 18th year, recognizes outstanding community policing initiatives by law enforcement agencies worldwide. The award identifies agencies around the world who are utilizing the power of community policing through collaboration and partnerships to make communities safer. Menlo Park entered the category for populations of 20,001 to 50,000 residents, and won for demonstrating meaningful change as a result of the police department and the community utilizing available resources for crime prevention and improvement of quality of life.

Four agencies were selected as winners, six agencies were selected as finalists, and three agencies were given special recognition.

According to the IACP Community Policing Committee, ā€œRecent events have demonstrated that trust between law enforcement and the community it serves is essential. The agencies we are honoring today have demonstrated how incorporating the community policing philosophy into their mission has built a stronger agency and awarded them with strong and lasting relationships with their communities.ā€

Menlo Park has proven to be a city committed to building partnerships and relationships. It is because of a great community that we are able to work together in collaboration to continue to improve Menlo Park and utilize the community policing philosophy. With a combination of partnerships and city resources, we continue to problem solve and increase public trust.

Award winners will be honored at the IACP’s 123rd Annual Conference and Exposition in San Diego, California.
