Menlo Park Police Make Arrests For Concealed Firearm And Curfew Violations

Passenger Pernell Hunter Jr, a 36-year-old male from San Jose, was arrested and booked into county jail for county curfew violation.

On June 2, 2020 at approximately 9:55 p.m., the Menlo Park Police Department received a report of two suspicious vehicles stopped in the roadway of Kenwood Drive in Menlo Park. The reporting party stated that he could hear the male occupants of both cars referring to stolen merchandise during a conversation from the vehicles, indicating that they may be intending to commit a crime or looting behavior.

Officers arrived moments later and contacted the occupants of both vehicles as they were leaving the area. During the contacts, one subject admitted a loaded handgun was concealed within one of the involved vehicles. Additionally, another subject was determined to have an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest.

The following subjects were subsequently charged with the listed offenses:

Driver Jamal Jackson, a 25-year-old male from Hayward, was arrested and booked into San Mateo County jail for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle (25400(a)(1) PC), carrying a loaded firearm in a public place (25850(a) PC) and county curfew violation (2.46.120 CO).

Occupants from a second vehicle associated with this incident were also arrested. Driver Ismael Zavala Garcia, an 18-year-old male from Redwood City, passenger Jose Espina Gonzalez, a 19-year-old male from Redwood City, and passenger Cristian Rodriguez Arellano, an 18-year-old male from Redwood City were arrested and booked into county jail for county curfew violation (2.46.120 CO).

“The Menlo Park Police Department is working to prevent criminal activity, including any type of property destruction and looting, and will use every tool available to protect our community,” said Chief Dave Bertini.
