Menlo School Junior Advances to Norcal Golf Tournament

Menlo School's golf team establishes new record low score.

 

Menlo Golf finished 5th at the CCS Championship at Rancho Canada West Golf Course in Carmel Valley, California Wednesday, establishing a new Menlo School record low score for the tournament at 382 strokes. 

Menlo finished just 5 strokes behind third place qualifier Archbishop Mitty High School. First place qualifier was Robert Louis Stevenson of Pebble Beach and second place qualifier was Palma High School of Salinas.

Shooting a 64, junior Andrew Buchanan of Menlo was CCS Medalist, finishing first out of 65 high school golfers who represented 24 high school teams. Buchanan tied the all-time CCS Championship Individual scoring record of 64 set in 2010 by Patrick Grimes of Menlo. Buchanan scored 5 birdies and 1 eagle in his 7 under par round.

On holes 16 thru 18, Buchanan scored birdie, eagle, birdie to complete a bogie-free round and win the CCS Championship.

is repeat medalist after winning the CCS Regional tournament last week at Rancho Canada shooting a 68. In between the two CCS rounds, on Monday, May 14, also competed at Pasatiempo at the U.S. Open Local Qualifying. Shooting a 70, 1 under par at Pasatiempo, Buchanan finished tied for 3rd in the US Open Local Qualifying round and advances to the U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying at Lake Merced on June 4.

Freshman Ethan Wong posted the second place score for Menlo shooting a 74. Wong finished 17th in the field of 65 high school golfers. Wong finished strong going 1 under on his final 4 holes. Senior Will Petit shot a 76 recording his personal best high school 18 hole score in his final appearance of his 4-year varsity golf career. Petit started off on a hot streak shooting 1 under par on the front nine.  Then he went bogie free on the front nine and birded the tough par 5 sixth hole. Senior Jackson Dean shot a solid 82 and Junior Max Garnick completed the scoring for Menlo by shooting 86.  

Andrew Buchanan advances to the Nor Cal tournament next Monday at Butte Creek Country Club in Chico, CA as an individual representative for Menlo School.
