Menlo School Picks Up First Loss

The Menlo School volleyball team took Sacred Heart Prep to the wire, but fell 3-2 in a battle between the West Bay Athletic League-Foothill leaders on the road Thursday.
Menlo picked up its first loss -- 17-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-18, 11-15 and the Gators remain undefeated.

"She played very aggressive and smart," Menlo coach Atlee Hubbard said.

Sophomore setter Elisa Merten contributed 58 assists, three aces, 18 digs, and five blocks.
"The rest of our offense struggled a little and our serve receive was shaky most of the match," Hubbard said. "Sacred Heart beat us in serve-receive tonight. Still, it was a close match and for us to keep fighting with the loud student section ... I am proud of our effort tonight."

Menlo (4-1 WBAL-Foothill and 15-6 overall) travels to San Jose to play Notre Dame on Tuesday.
