Menlo School's Price Places Ninth in Nation

Maddy Price's red-hot run propelled her.

Menlo School's Maddy Price ran consecutive sub-56-second 400-meter races, propelling her to ninth in the country after a red-hot run through the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics in Baltimore.

Price, who will be a junior in the fall, ran the 400 in 55.85 seconds to win her heat and take fourth overall in the preliminaries Thursday at Morgan State. She was fifth coming in to the last 100 meters, then sprinted past the field to finish first. Twenty-four hours later in 105-degree heat, she finished in 55.94 to take ninth place overall.

“Maddy is not only an amazing athlete, but an extreme competitor,” said Menlo iGreyhounds coach Jorge Chen, who is an assistant on Menlo’s cross country, track and soccer teams. “Very few kids her age think like her and have such a drive to excel.”
