Menlo Storming King's Castle
Down by two goals in the second half, the Menlo School boys' soccer team stormed back with a 4-2 victory over host Crystal Springs Uplands on Monday.
The Knights hold a 5-1-3 record for 18 points in West Bay Athletic League. They are second to unbeaten Sacred Heart Prep (7-0-2, 23 points) and The King’s Academy, which played Priory on Monday.
The last time these teams met, they played to a 2-2 tie. After a slow start Monday, and falling behind 1-0 early in the match, Menlo was in a tough position. The start of the second half added to the anxiety as Menlo conceded a second goal.
The tide turned quickly when sophomore John Strong started the run with an unassisted goal. After beating two defenders from the right side of the penalty box, he fired a laser to the back post.
Senior Henry Bard followed the act with a header off a cross from freshman Kyle Perez to beat the keeper high.
The third goal was a classic one as Bard sliced through two defenders and placed a beautifully paced ball onto the foot of a junior Max Parker who blasted it home. Finally, it was Parker again who found the net off a corner kick from Jackson Wagner.
The Knights (8-1-5 overall) play host to Priory at 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
