MENLO PARK, CA – As progress continues on the new Menlo Park fire station, officials say the project is starting to "take shape." Curious as to what's going on? Check out the below update, courtesy of the Menlo Park Fire Protection District:
The Fire District’s new downtown Menlo Park fire station is starting to take shape. The structural steel has been completed and the metal framing is scheduled to be completed by the end of June. The outline of the new 8,300 square foot, two story new fire station building can now be easily seen.
Demolition of the previous 1953 single story flat top 3,000 square foot fire station started in late November 2016. CJW Architecture completed the design of the station and Gonsalves & Stronck Construction Co., Inc. were successful in winning the bid for this traditional looking but extremely modern $7.54 million dollar fire station.

The completely non-combustible structural steel and aluminum framing components were all made in the United States as specified by the Fire District’s buy American clause in their agreement with the contractor. The structure is also rated to a higher seismic resilience standard than other non-governmental buildings.
The fire station is scheduled to be completed in February 2018. Upon completion of the fire station the single story, single family residential home currently being used to temporarily accommodate fire crew’s behind the new station will be torn down for rear access and drive through for the new station and in-order to provide the room to build an ancillary structure and make way for the Fire District’s original 1899 fire building to be moved from Fire Station 1, located at 300 Middlefield Road.
