New Menlo Park Retail, Housing, Services: Facebook Details Commitment To Local Community

The tech giant says they plan on creating a neighborhood center with "long-needed community services" among other things.

MENLO PARK, CA – Facebook and its connection to Menlo Park are well-known throughout the community. What other city with less than 40,000 people can say they are home to one of the most recognizable companies in the world?

It's no secret that Facebook continues to grow. And in order to meet their needs, more workers are going to need more places to live, shop and relax. To help the organization – and the community at large – meet said needs, Facebook is planning its first major expansion after the MPK20 by redeveloping the former Menlo Science & Technology Park. It will be called the Willow Campus.

"Working with the community, our goal for the Willow Campus is to create an integrated, mixed-use village that will provide much needed services, housing and transit solutions as well as office space," Facebook's VP Global Facilities and Real Estate John Tenanes said in a recent blog post.

"Part of our vision is to create a neighborhood center that provides long-needed community services," he said. "We plan to build 125,000 square feet of new retail space, including a grocery store, pharmacy and additional community-facing retail."

The company says they'll be filing a plan with the city of Menlo Park this month. However, it likely won't be until around 2021 that the first completed phase of the project will be here.
