One Dead In Silicon Valley Parking Lot Shooting: Police

BREAKING: Public safety officials say that another man was hospitalized in critical condition Thursday.

SUNNYVALE, CA – One person is dead and another is hospitalized following a shooting Thursday in the parking lot of a Sunnyvale strip mall, officials report. According to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, the double shooting was reported around 2 a.m. in the 900 block of East Duane Avenue.

The shooting, which claimed the life of a 21-year-old man, happened in the Fair Oaks Plaza, according to public safety officials. Authorities were dispatched to the area on reports of shots fired, and the first arriving officer found the man, who was declared dead at the scene.

The second victim, a 24-year-old man, was found nearby in the parking lot and was taken to a hospital. He is in critical condition but is expected to survive, Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Capt. Shawn Ahearn said.

Investigators believe there was "some kind of altercation" with one or more other people, but they are still seeking witnesses and surveillance video from nearby businesses.
